1 arrested, another sought for robbing Murfreesboro man sitting on his front porch

A man was robbed at gunpoint while sitting on the porch of his Murfreesboro home Wednesday afternoon.

Police released images from the Sevier Street home’s surveillance system.

Elbert Marable, 64, was on his front porch enjoying the great weather when unbeknownst to him, two crooks were creeping in his backyard.

They first checked the back door, and then plotted their plan with a pistol in hand.

“I sat here about 30 or 40 minutes before anything happened,” explained Marable.

Then like a scene out of a movie, the suspects made their move.

“All at once, someone came and stuck a pistol to my head and told me to get up and go in the house,” Marable said.

They then forced him to floor.

“I was saying, ‘Man, please don’t kill me, man.’ He said, ‘I didn’t come here to kill you. I come to get this money off of you.’”

The suspects then demanded the keys to Marable’s truck.

One of them was seen on video leaving the house and running to the vehicle. He rummaged through the truck until he found nearly $800, which was the money from Marable’s disability check that he had just cashed.

Marable says the thieves then asked if anyone else was in the home. He told them yes, his girlfriend was in a back bedroom, so they went after her.

“I looked and he came with the gun, and like don’t move and I jumped up and he said, ‘Don’t look at me,’” Marable’s girlfriend, China Patterson said.

Patterson heard nothing. She thought she was home alone.

“When he told me to lay back down, I really thought then he was going to really shoot me. Then once he told me to lay down and stop looking at him and lay down. I was just praying to God don’t let this man kill me,” she said.

The other suspect made Patterson go through the truck looking for more money, but there wasn’t any.

The suspects left with the cash they had already taken and two cell phones.

“I want to get them off the streets man, cause if they did me they going to do somebody else too,” Marable said.

On Friday, 31-year-old Tristin Long was arrested for the crime. He has been charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and aggravated kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The other suspect is still being sought.
