2 dead in murder-suicide

A Smyrna woman is dead after her boyfriend’s brother shot and killed her before taking his own life.

The murder-suicide happened Thursday night at Kayleigh Dupont’s Village Lake Drive townhome.

Officers responded to the home off Jefferson Pike around 7:20 p.m. after receiving a 911 hang-up call.

They found Dupont, 28, and Justin Bennett shot to death in a locked upstairs bathroom.

Dupont’s two-year-old son was found just down the hall unharmed.

An investigation revealed Bennett, 32, of Murfreesboro, entered the home sometime Thursday evening by kicking in the front door.

He confronted Dupont and shot her to death before turning the gun on himself.

Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold told News 2 the shooting is believed to be the result of a domestic altercation involving Bennett’s father, Timothy, who also lived at the home.  He was arrested for domestic assault two days earlier… Read More
