The Center for the Arts Debuts “Carrie: The Musical”

Carrie the Musical made its debut, October 6, 2017 at Center for the Arts.  This electrifying, pop-rock musical adaptation of the Stephen King bestselling novel Carrie runs October 6-22 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm.   This production is rated R for mature content.

This new production, which retains much of the original stand-out material for Carrie and her mother Margaret, is based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel that first premiered on Broadway in 1988.

Director Matthew Hayes Hunter shares, “Unlike some musicals where a song or two feels out of place, or unnecessary even, the songs in Carrie the Musical really drive the story forward. There are several different styles of music in this production, so there is most definitely something for everyone to enjoy.”

This immersive production of Carrie takes the legendary musical off the stage and puts the audience right in the middle of the action in the rooms and hallways of Chamberlain High School and, of course, with a prime seat at the prom.

Audience members will receive ballots in their show programs to vote for prom king and queen during intermission.  There will be a “Carrie” themed photo booth available, and prom punch will be available at concessions during intermission.

Carrie the Musical shares two weekends with The Center’s midnight productions of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  When show patrons buy their Carrie the Musical tickets, they will receive a $2 discount on tickets to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which includes a free prop bag.

On October 14, the Discovery Center will provide entertainment between shows with an onsite DNA extraction lab, where show patrons can extract and view their own DNA, as a part of the upcoming Tennessee STEAM Festival.
