Charges pending in fatal crash

A Murfreesboro man is deceased and another one injured following a single vehicle crash on Warrior Driver Saturday morning, Dec. 7.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2012 Nissan Altima, Dustan Michael Volkman, 27, may have been speeding and failed to negotiate a curve on Warrior Drive near Riverdale High School. His vehicle left the roadway, went into a ditch, struck a concrete culvert, overturned and landed upside down around 1:00 a.m.

His passenger, Chad Ghee, 35, was trapped inside the vehicle. Members of Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department used extrication equipment to remove him from the vehicle. Ghee was later pronounced deceased at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital (STRH).

Volkman was taken by personnel with Rutherford County Emergency Rescue Services to STRH and treated for a broken leg and other injuries.

No charges have been filed currently. Investigators are awaiting the results of a blood-alcohol analysis.

The crash remains under investigation by the Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT).
