City Council Approves Separation Agreement with Rob Lyons

The Murfreesboro City Council agreed unanimously Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, to a Separation Agreement with Rob Lyons that includes a 6-month current salary severance and medical insurance payout totaling $95,810.39.

Under the Separation Agreement, Lyons releases any claims he may have with the City and agrees to assist the City with a seamless transition as it searches for a new City Manager.

The Council vote in a Special Meeting at City Hall came after City Legal Department staff provided the Council with a copy of the Agreement.

Rob Lyons resigned Friday, Dec. 15 to pursue other opportunities, announcing his decision to staff at 8:30 a.m. after submitting his resignation to the Mayor and City Council.

Under details of the Separation and Release of Claims Agreement, Lyons will receive regular pay for time worked that includes one full bi-weekly paycheck ($6,685.12) and a partial bi-weekly paycheck ($3,342.56) for December 2017. The former City Manager will receive 6-month severance of 13 bi-weekly paychecks at his current salary through July 6, 2018 totaling $86,906.56, approximately 100 unused accrued vacation days pay totaling $67,276.35 and a City paid medical and dental payment of $8,903.83.

Lyons, 51, was serving in his eighth year as City Manager when he officially resigned Friday.

The Council did not take a formal vote appointing an Interim City Manager after Mayor Shane McFarland indicated that under City Charter the Assistant City Manager becomes Acting City Manager.
