Food for Fines Week is April 9 -15: Give to a Good Cause for What You Owe

Got overdue library fines – and some extra groceries? If so, the Linebaugh Public Library System (LPLS) is offering you an easy way to pay off those overdue fines to celebrate National Library Week.

For one week, patrons of the library will have the option to bring in canned goods to pay off library fines. Not only will you be getting rid of some fines, but you will be helping the community as well.

From Sunday, April 9, through Saturday, April 15, the Linebaugh Public Library System (Linebaugh Library in Murfreesboro, Myrtle Glanton Lord Library at Patterson Park, Smyrna Public Library, and the Eagleville Bicentennial Public Library) will be collecting food donations for the Rutherford County Emergency Food Bank.

Bring your canned goods to the front desk of any LPLS branch, and staff will waive your fines for overdue items. Charges for lost or damaged items and referral fees cannot be waived. One dollar in fines will be waived for each can donated to help feed the hungry. Please bring only new, unopened cans within expiration date. No fines? You can help out and make a food donation anyway. In April of last year, our patrons donated 1,868 cans to this food drive!

Since the Food Bank is committed to helping provide for those in need, you can be sure that donations are going to a good cause. Remember: the libraries are ONLY collecting canned goods for the food drive.

To find out if you owe any fines, simply go to the library’s website (www.linebaugh.org) and login to your account by the top search bar. Enter your library card number and PIN (typically the last six digits of your library card) to check your account balance.

Linebaugh Public Library is located at 105 W. Vine St. in Murfreesboro. Smyrna Public Library is located at 400 Enon Springs Rd. West in Smyrna.
