Murfreesboro Fire Rescue and Murfreesboro Police Department are partnering with the American Red Cross for a friendly competition…a “Battle of the Badges” blood drive February 21 through February 26.
MFRD and MPD personnel, along with members of the public wishing to donate and contribute to one team’s donations or the other, can sign up for the event online by visiting redcrossblood.org. Online registration for the event is highly encouraged and beneficial to donors and Red Cross staff alike.
The public safety agency that wins the competition will receive bragging rights and a traveling trophy, as this will likely become an annual event.
“We are excited to enter into this partnership with the Red Cross and our friends in blue to give back to the community,” said Fire Rescue Chief Mark Foulks. The Red Cross estimates that each donation can help save up to three lives!
Police Chief Mike Bowen said, “Our Officers and Firefighters work together every day in our community and see firsthand the need for life saving blood products. We are proud to partner with the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department to help the Red Cross meet those needs.”
The drive will take place at the local blood donation center located at 501 Memorial Boulevard. At time of registration, donors will tell volunteers the agency for which they are donating.
Rapid Pass: Reduces Time Spent at Blood Drive
The Red Cross now offers “Rapid Pass,” a quicker and easier way for donors to complete their pre-reading and donation questions online from the privacy and comfort of their own home or office. This also saves the donor time at the donation site, cutting the wait time as much as 15 minutes.
