Month Celebration to highlight value of parks and recreation for local communities
Why do you love your local parks and recreation? Can you answer the question? Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) believe people in Murfreesboro can and are seeking the most creative answers during national Park and Recreation Month this July. This year, Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department’s program of activities for Park and Recreation Month encourages everyone to show and share the love for parks and recreation.
The 2013 theme of “I [heart] my Park and Recreation” encourages individuals, families, friends, and park-lovers everywhere to venture to their local parks and recreation areas to experience the many benefits they offer, such as programs to inspire healthy, active lifestyles and activities to appreciate nature and the environment.
Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate Park and Recreation Month through a variety of events and contests. The staff will be out at existing events such as, “Celebration Under the Stars” and “Rock the Pool” party on July 4th, Movies Under the Stars, Uncle Dave Macon Days, Splash Out, and more. Just for Park and Recreation month a few events have been added. We will have a Fun Run located at Gateway Island on July 16th and a Flick and Float at “Boro Beach” the evening of July 24. Contests will held at these events and free passes, concession items, and giveaways will be awarded just look for our July is Park and Recreation Month banner.
In addition to getting involved in Park and Recreation Month locally, people can also share the love for parks and recreation on a grander scale through the Show UR Love weekly photo contest. During each week of July, people are encouraged to snap pictures in their local parks and recreation. Submit photos that show the love for local parks and recreation to email@example.com.
