September 11th Ceremony

Veterans and community residents will remember the emergency responders and citizens who died during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorists’ attacks at noon, Monday, Sept. 11 at the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh invited citizens to join emergency responders in memorializing the sacrifices so many Americans made that day.

“This solemn ceremony will remember the lives of the firefighters, paramedics and law enforcement officers who gave their own lives to save innocent people,” Fitzhugh said. “We will also remember the citizens who died that day and the military that have lost their lives since then protecting America.”

Keynote speaker will be John Maggard, Chief, of Police Service at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System.

Maggard served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army from 1983-1996 in Texas and Colorado, the Republic of Panama and Korea. Since then, he served in different positions at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center, Acting Chief of Police and Security Service at Palo Alto Health Care System and Chief, Police Service at the Ann Arbor Health System.

Other events include a multi-agency Honor Guard and the raising of the POW Flag by Rolling Thunder.
