16th Judicial District Drug Court Graduation
On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, the Drug Court for Rutherford and Cannon Counties held its quarterly graduation at the Rutherford County Judicial Center, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Drug Court Judge Jimmy Turner and Recovery Court Director Trish Breeding presented two gentlemen that recently completed the intensive, court monitored rehabilitation program.
Director Breeding told the audience, which was filled with family and friends of the graduates, “This program truly changes lives. These two individuals are clear examples of the profound impact this program can have. I am incredibly lucky to be a part of this team.”
Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron welcomed those in attendance and congratulated the two graduates. Also in attendance were many other local officials, including Rutherford County Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh, District Attorney General Jennings Jones, State Senator Dawn White, State Representatives Tim Rudd and
Mike Sparks, Judge Lisa Eischeid, Circuit Court Clerk Melissa Harrell, and County Commissioner Chantho Sourinho. Trey McFarlin, recently appointed as General Sessions Judge, led the pledge of allegiance as the ceremony opened.
The daily per person cost of the Recovery Courts is approximately one-half the daily cost to incarcerate an individual in the Detention Center. When a participant graduates, they are able to positively contribute to the community, the economy, and, most importantly, to their family.
“This program improves the lives of the participants in every aspect: mentally, physically, emotionally and financially. They enter this program in very dire circumstances, many times homeless and helpless,” stated Judge Jimmy Turner.
“Our graduates have worked hard to turn their lives around.”
The Drug Court holds a graduation once per quarter. The next graduation is anticipated to be held in November or December.
