2017 World Tai Chi Day on the Grounds of Oaklands Mansion

Experience the tranquility and peacefulness of the grounds as we host the 2017 World Qi Gong and Tai Chi Day in Murfreesboro. Local Tai Chi Chuan/Qigong teacher, Bret Hawkins, will lead visitors in interactive participation and demonstrations. Join us on Saturday, April 29, for the 2017 World Qi Gong and Tai Chi Day presented by Oaklands Mansion.

Tai Chi Chuan (Tai Chi) is an ancient Chinese discipline that incorporates Internal (soft) martial arts, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and meditation. There have been many studies, including those conducted, or sponsored, by Harvard University, Vanderbilt University, and The Mayo Clinic, that prove that practicing Tai Chi daily can vastly improve one’s health (lower blood pressure, improve balance, expand lung capacity, improve blood flow, strengthen muscles, increase bone density, and so much more) as well as increase flexibility and promoting a deep sense of well-being (Tai Chi is often referred to as “moving meditation”). Qi Gong is a series of breathing exercises that is similar to Tai Chi, and often done together.

Bret Hawkins, CFT, and Tai Chi Chuan/ Qigong teacher. Began studying Tai Chi and Qigong with Tseng (Tom) Wang in 1999, became his assistant teacher in 2004, began teaching on his own in 2006, and has been teaching in Murfreesboro since 2008. He currently teaches classes at Patterson Park Community Center, and is scheduled to teach at MTSU later in 2017.

“Tai Chi Chuan has changed my life for the better in every aspect. It is not just something you do; it is a way of life. It teaches you to relax, maintain a healthy lifestyle, accept pressures without stressing and calmly work through them, live in the moment, and to appreciate the joy of life and the beauty of nature,” says Bret Hawkins, Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong teacher.

The event will be 10 am to noon on April 29, 2017, and is free and open to the public. There will be interactive participation, demonstrations, and a Q & A time.
