2nd Annual Boro Prom a Huge Success

Boro Prom Check 2023

On February 11, Murfreesboro showed up in their best 80’s attire and danced their high tops off to the best music from the decade, and all for a great cause, Isaiah 117 House.

For the second year now, Boro Business Lab and Wild Goose Chase Events hosted the 80’s Boro Prom for adults. Guests came in every kind of fashion from the decade and enjoyed an evening of dancing, 80’s karaoke and all the flashbacks from yesteryear. Rubik’s cubes, speak-n-spells, lite brites and slap bracelets decorated the event and party goers had an amazing time.

“Boro Business Labs had the idea to throw an amazing party to help raise funds for Isaiah 117 House and show Murfreesboro how much fun it is to live here. Take me back to my childhood and raise money for a worthy cause, that was an easy yes,” said Missy Lay, owner of Wild Goose Chase Events. Lay found the best of the 80s to decorate the event. The first year, guests were greeted by Doc Brown and the time machine from Back to the Future, then were escorted from the building by The Tennessee Ghost Busters when the night ended. This year, an emperial officer and tie pilot from Star Wars welcomed attendees, then joined a host of cosplayers for a glow drop on the dance floor. “The local Cosplay Collective always shows up,” Lay added. Velma and Scooby Doo, the Sorceress from He-Man, Zoya the Destroyer from G.L.O.W. brought back amazing memories for all who came.

Every hour, there were fun things happening on the dance floor. Lay herself dressed as Ferris Bueller and relived the Parade seen from the iconic movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Cheerleaders from Cumberland University in Lebanon did a special routine from the Tony Basil song “Hey Mickey.” The night culminated with the crowning of the prom king and queen, Jason and Rachelle Ayers, who donned matching hot pink outfits. Last year’s king and queen, Kenzi and Michael Keene, crowned them and joined in a slow dance.

Dean Heasley of Boro Business Labs thanked the crowd for coming, announced two promotions within their business and let AlLee Dauenhauer speak on behalf of Isaiah 117 House. Missy Lay brought out the large check to announce to the crowd they had raised $11,000 together. “Every day I realize I have the best job in the world, but putting time and talents towards benefiting a local nonprofit is so rewarding. We love this town and are very blessed to be a small part of it.”

After two years, Boro Prom has raised over $16,500 for the nonprofit, who provides physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting placement in the foster system. The Rutherford County chapter has been building a home to do just that.
