31-year-old road worker killed on side of I-24 in Murfreesboro

A 31-year-old man was hit and killed while working on the side of Interstate 24 in Murfreesboro Thursday evening.

According to a report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 5:10 p.m. between the Church Street and Joe B. Jackson Parkway exits.

The THP says Roxan Brown, 65, of Georgia, was driving east in her Toyota Yaris when she ran off the left shoulder for unknown reasons and hit John Gray III.

Gray, 31, of Millington, Tennessee, was working outside of his vehicle in the median. He was killed at the scene.

The traffic report says Brown’s car kept travelling and ultimately hit Gray’s Ford F350 in the median. She was not injured.

Criminal charges are pending, according to the THP report.

It’s not known what company Gray worked for or what work he was completing.
