Murfreesboro police arrest teen in fatal shooting after 11-hour standoff

A 17-year-old male wanted in connection with a fatal shooting on North Academy Street on Thursday, Oct. 9 was taken into custody late Friday night, Oct. 10, after an 11-hour standoff with Murfreesboro Police Department’s Special Operations Unit (SOU).

SOU officers arrived at a home on E. Castle Street around 1 p.m. Friday to serve a first-degree murder warrant. The 17-year-old barricaded himself inside, prompting officers to deploy multiple less-lethal tactics to attempt to take him into custody peacefully.

During the standoff, the suspect damaged three drones that entered the home. He was taken into custody at approximately 11:44 p.m. after SOU officers made entry into the home and located the suspect hiding.

The murder charge stems from a shooting that occurred at a home in the 1000 block of North Academy Street on Thursday around 9 p.m. Investigators said the 17-year-old and several others were involved in an altercation with 26-year-old Kentrell London. About 30 minutes later, the teen allegedly returned and shot London on the front porch, killing him.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The 17-year-old is being held at the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center pending a court date.
