MTSU Researchers Receive USDA Grant to Study Honeybee Health
Honeybees at MTSU's research farm are helping scientists unlock new discoveries about pollinator health. Thanks to a new USDA grant, Dr. Manuel Guzman and his research team are studying the internal biological clocks that help honeybees process time and daily activity.
The project focuses on identifying the neurons responsible for synchronizing bees' brains with time of day, research that could lead to healthier honeybee populations and benefit both scientists and beekeepers.
Students are also gaining valuable hands-on experience by monitoring bee behavior in the field, dissecting bee brains in the lab, analyzing neuron activity, and processing research data, giving them real-world scientific training.
Researchers hope the new tools developed through this project will improve honeybee health and provide valuable resources for the scientific and beekeeping communities.
