Mason to debut Countdown to Kickoff Luncheons
MTSU Athletics is giving Blue Raider fans a new way to get ready for home football Saturdays with the introduction of the Countdown to Kickoff Luncheon hosted by head coach Derek Mason. This exciting pregame experience will give fans an inside look at the upcoming game while enjoying lunch with members of the Blue Raider football program.
The Countdown to Kickoff Luncheon will be held in the SRM Concrete Club on the third floor of the Smith Center prior to each home football game. Lunch will begin at 11:45 a.m., with the 45-minute program getting underway at noon and concluding at 12:45 p.m. The official dates of the luncheon will be Sept. 4, Sept. 18, Oct. 12, Oct. 27, Nov. 6 and Nov. 27.
Tickets are $10 per person and include lunch and fountain drinks. Parking will be available in the Greenland Drive Lot where the RVs are parked on gameday.
The program will feature a variety of segments designed to give fans an inside look at the Blue Raiders as they prepare for their upcoming opponent:
- Chalk Talk with Coach Mason (20 minutes): Head Coach Derek Mason will preview the upcoming game, discussing the opponent and key storylines heading into kickoff and be available for questions.
- Coach's Corner (10 minutes): A different assistant coach will join the program each time to provide additional insight into the team and the upcoming matchup.
- Student-Athlete Spotlight (10 minutes): Fans will hear from a current Blue Raider football player or, on select occasions, a former player about his experiences with the program and the upcoming game.
“The Countdown to Kickoff Luncheon is going to be a great opportunity for our fans to get a little closer to our football program and learn more about the game we're getting ready to play,” said Mason. “We want our fans to feel like they're part of the preparation, and this gives us a chance to spend some time with them, talk football and hopefully get everybody excited about Gameday. It's going to be a lot of fun.”
Former Blue Raider star running back Benny Cunningham will be in attendance for the first luncheon on Sept. 4 and will take part in the student-athlete spotlight.
