ACORN FESTIVAL AT OAKLANDS PARK
Cultural Arts Murfreesboro and Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation are proud to announce their music festival at Oaklands Park in Murfreesboro, TN. Acorn Festival will showcase local and national Indie Rock, Folk, and Americana talent on Saturday, November 4.
Gates open at 11:30 a.m. and require a wristband to enter. The Festival will be held on the grounds of Oaklands Park at the corner of N. Highland Ave. and Roberts St. Wristbands are $8 when purchased in advanced online at www.acornfestival.org, and will be available to purchase at the gate with cash or check for $10. To be announced are the food trucks and craft beer vendors.
Acorn Festival’s line up has just been released and is an impressive group of 6 bands that are sure to entertain any music lover. Entertainment begins at 12 p.m. with THE TOUCH, a Nashville, TN based band which is a Dark Synth Pop ensemble. Their sound came about when vocalist Billy Blackman put his head together with Matt Ray and his analogue synthesizers. Creating a collective of soundscapes that fit a dark setting, while still maintaining elements of dance, pop, and progressive music. When paired with the articulate push of Trey Blackman’s bass and the bombastic drumming of Matt McPeak, The Touch was born. Feel the music just as much as you hear it. rn. Each track, theme, and lyric presented by The Touch is an original idea fabricated by the marriage of our minds. Feel the music just as much as you hear it.Next in the lineup is a THE HARDIN DRAW, this Tennessee based band has toured all the way from New York to New Orleans and has an “outside of the box” use of traditional cord structures infused with haunting yet catchy melodies which set The Hardin Draw apart in the Americana music genre.This Tennessee based band has toured all the way from New York down to New Orleans. Following in the lineup is ROANOKE, Roanoke is a rising Folk/Americana band based out of Nashville, TN. Roanoke uses their undeniable musical chemistry to create a unique and captivating sound full of cultural influences, roots instrumentation, and catchy, memorable melodies. Their self-titled debut album ‘Roanoke’ is an invigoratingly classic Americana album filled with modern yet vintage tunes that make the audience sit back and listen. porch tale in true Americana fashion. Next, ARTS FISHING CLUB will take the stage to blend modern indie-folk (think Gregory Alan Isakov, The Head and the Heart, and Jose Gonzales) with classic 90s jam bands (think Dave Matthews Band, Phish, OAR) to create a unique take on acoustic rock that will make you dance one moment and search your soul the next. The fifth performance of the festival will be THE LONELY BISCUITS, The Lonely Biscuits are an alternative rock band hailing from Nashville, Tennessee. The Lonely Biscuits have played on numerous festival stages such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Hangout Fest, Austin City Limits, LouFest and South by Southwest. In 2013, MTVu named The Lonely Biscuits “College Artist of the Year”, and gave them the opportunity to play alongside many major acts at the MTVu Woodie Awards in Austin, Texas.
Acorn Festival organizers are proud to announce that, our headliner is SHEL with the billowing curtains of sound on Just Crazy Enough, the second full length album from virtuoso indie-folk band SHEL, will be both familiar and far-out to fans of the exciting sister quartet. The classically inspired mandolin, violin and piano are there, along with the band’s glowing vocal harmonies. But we also hear dense, ethereal textures that hover between the digital and the analog. Grooves are deeper, emboldened with electronic ambience and beat-boxing. The overall effect sheds light on their broad collection of influences, from the daring rock bands of the 60s to the contemplative composers of the 18th Century, and even the waves of modern electronica.
Oaklands Park is a native tree arboretum and natural wetlands, which includes Maney Spring as well as heritage and native gardens. Oaklands Visitors Center houses a gift shop and Maney Reception Hall for special events and temporary exhibitions.
