Amos B. Gruber obituary

Amos B. Gruber, age 92, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018. He was a native of Hummelstown, PA and the son of the late Harry and Leah Wolfensberger Gruber. He was also preceded in death by brother, John and sister, Ruth.

He is survived by his wife of 60 plus years, Jane, and a son, Brian, his pride and joy.

Mr. Gruber joined the Navy in 1943. While serving in the European Theater of operations, his ship, an LST was sunk in the English Channel and he was wounded in 1944. He received a Purple Heart. After recovering from his wounds, he returned to active duty in the Pacific Theater of operations for the remainder of the war, serving throughout the Pacific.

After returning home, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree at Dickerson College in Carlisle, PA. He retired from Bridgestone in 1991. Mr. Gruber enjoyed traveling and woodworking. He was a 32 degree Mason and of the Lutheran faith.

The family wishes to thank Northside Health for the great care and love they gave to Mr. Amos.
