ATHENA Scholarship Recipients

Two scholarships were awarded at the 2018 ATHENA Award Ceremony, held at Embassy Suites Murfreesboro on Thursday, April 19.

Monica McKinny, a student at Middle Tennessee State University pursuing a degree in history with a minor in education, was awarded the $3,000 ATHENA Nontraditional Scholarship, funded by the ATHENA Patrons Society.

Through the generous support of ATHENA nominee Retta Gardner, a second scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Rebecca Campbell, a physical education major at MTSU.

“It is so gratifying to know that both of our scholarship recipients intend to be educators,” said ATHENA 2018 Chair Natalie Hughes. “What better way to salute the ATHENA principles of learning and giving back!”

The Rutherford ATHENA Award Program grants a nontraditional scholarship to a Rutherford County woman who is pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree later in life. For more information on the ATHENA scholarship, please visit rutherfordcable.org.
