Murfreesboro Babies “Go Red” for Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week

Middle Tennessee proudly “went red” on Friday for National Wear Red Day, but the mission of Heart Month is far from over! The newborns of Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown and Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford are donning red to raise awareness for Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week. CHD Awareness Week runs from February 7th through Valentine’s Day.

Nothing is sweeter than babies and nurses supporting a good cause! As you enjoy the photo gallery linked below, Ascension Saint Thomas asks that you remember the following sobering facts from the American Heart Society. If you would like to schedule an interview to help raise awareness, please email me at [email protected].

  • Congenital heart defects are the most common form of birth defect in the United States, affecting nearly 40,000 births per year.
  • Nearly 1 in 100 babies are born with a heart defect.
  • Ascension Saint Thomas is the local sponsor for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement. One of the movement’s main priorities is ensuring that women have the necessary access to care and educational information to remain heart-healthy. This includes providing expectant mothers with empowering health information about their hearts and their babies’ hearts.
