City Announces Staff Changes in Development Services Division
Greg McKnight appointed executive director of Development Services Division; Kevin Jones, director of Building & Codes; Robert Holtz, director of Community Development
Staff changes in the Development Services Division follow the appointment of Sam Huddleston as Assistant City Manager for Engineering and Economic Development.
Greg McKnight has been appointed Executive Director of Development Services. McKnight has served as Murfreesboro Planning Director since 2020.
Kevin Jones has been appointed Director of Building Codes after serving as Assistant Director for seven years since Nov. 2016.
Robert Holtz has been appointed Director of Community Development after serving as Director of Building & Codes. Holtz had served as director of Building & Codes since 2016 and began his career with the City of Murfreesboro in August 1996 as a Plans Examiner.
As Executive Director of the Development Services Division, McKnight has responsibility for the Planning, Building and Codes, and Community Development departments. The Division also oversees floodplain management, the city development process, and aspects of Engineering and urban environmental.
McKnight previously served as president of Pinnacle Construction as a project executive on large construction projects. McKnight, a 1991 graduate of the University of Tennessee-Martin, serves on the Main Street Murfreesboro Board of Directors.
Jones began his employment with the City of Murfreesboro in July 2011 as a Building Inspector and served as Plan Examiner from July 2014 to November 2016. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Middle Tennessee State University in 2010.
Prior to joining the City of Murfreesboro, Holtz worked as a project manager and estimator for a general contractor and a structural steel company. Holtz, a Cleveland, Tenn. native, graduated from Memphis State University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering Technology.
On Jan. 17, 2023, City Manager Craig Tindall appointed Sam Huddleston to serve as Assistant City Manager for Engineering and Economic Development in the City Manager’s Office. Huddleston had previously served as Executive Director for the Development Services Division since July 2018. Huddleston has also served as Assistant City Engineer and Environmental Engineer for the City after joining the City in 1999.
A licensed Professional Engineer, Huddleston is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and past president of the Nashville Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.
