City Awarded $10.1 Million in Federal Grant Funds for Water Infrastructure Projects

The City of Murfreesboro Water Resources Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $10.115 million from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to improve water infrastructure.

“The City of Murfreesboro appreciates TDEC approval of our grant request for ARP funds to rehabilitate infrastructure and expand wastewater capacity,” said Mayor Shane McFarland. “This funding will allow our growing city to meet the needs of citizens and businesses. I thank our legislative delegation for their continued support.”

The federal America Rescue Plan (ARP) funds will provide critical financial support to upgrade the City’s wastewater systems infrastructure.

The City of Murfreesboro will use ARP funds to address the critical need rehabilitating the sanitary sewer collection systems and regaining capacity. Murfreesboro will complete four projects for its wastewater collection system, which will correct defects in its large diameter mainlines, address issues with their small diameter mainlines and associated manholes, and address the upsizing in lines resulting in restrictions in a portion of the system.

Senator Dawn White (R-Murfreesboro) and Senator Shane Reeves (R-Murfreesboro) announced the grants totaling $14.2 million for Rutherford County Wednesday, May 3, 2023, as part of $232.7 million awarded by TDEC across Tennessee.

“These grants will ensure our citizens have access to dependable, safe drinking water and reliable sewer systems, which are vitally important to any community, said White. “I appreciate our state and local leaders for their work on these projects.”

“I am pleased to announce Murfreesboro is receiving a grant for critical water infrastructure projects,” said Reeves. “These projects will bring upgrades to wastewater systems as well as drinking water infrastructure, supporting residences and businesses. I am very supportive of TDEC as well as our local officials for securing the funding for these much-needed projects.”

Since August, TDEC has awarded $634.4 million in grant funds through ARP programming.
