City Council invites public to Special Public Comment
The Murfreesboro City Council is inviting citizens to a Special Public Comment period Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, at 6 p.m., prior to the regularly scheduled meeting at 7:00 p.m. The City held a Public Information Session Open House Wednesday, Dec. 11, regarding the proposed merger of the City’s Electric Department with Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation. The upcoming Special Public Comment provides further opportunity for public input on this proposed merger.
The Dec. 11 Open House allowed citizens to gather information and ask questions regarding the proposed merger of the Electric Department with MTEMC. City staff and MTEMC staff were available to answer questions and provide information about this transaction.
The 6:00 p.m. Public Comment period this Thursday, Dec. 19 will allow the public to provide comments to the City Council in the same format conducted at 6:30 p.m. on the first regularly scheduled meeting of the month prior to the 7:00 p.m. meeting.
“Allowing the public to express views of a broad nature to the Council is in keeping with our goal of engaging our community,” said Mayor Shane McFarland. “Council values the ideas and opinions of the citizens and incorporates them into our decisions.”
Persons wishing to speak should register by calling the Mayor’s office at 615-849-2629 or e-mail Kenya Tigg at [email protected] and give their name and address. Pre-registered speakers will have three (3) minutes to address the Council. If time allows, others attending the meeting may also speak.
On Dec. 5, 2019, Council conducted a Special Public Meeting to hear a presentation on the potential sale of MED to MTEMC.
