City of Murfreesboro hires Elizabeth Taylor as Assistant City Attorney

Elizabeth Taylor has been hired as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Murfreesboro.

Ms. Taylor will be a dedicated attorney representing the Murfreesboro City Schools and will divide time between MCS and City Hall.

“I am delighted to welcome Ms. Taylor to the legal staff for the City of Murfreesboro,” said City Attorney Adam Tucker. “Her service as General Counsel for the State Board of Education and the Staff Attorney for the Office of Civil Rights in the Tennessee Department of Education offers the City strong legal expertise in education and civil rights.”

The State Board of Education, where Taylor served as General Counsel from 2015 to 2018, is the governing and policymaking body for the Tennessee system of public elementary and secondary education. Ms. Taylor advised the State Board of Education and staff with legal advice and drafted board policies and regulations.

Ms. Taylor has also served as Staff Attorney and Director of the Office of Civil Rights for the State Department of Education, investigating Title VI and Title IX civil rights complaints. From August 2009 to February 2013, Taylor was a Law Clerk for the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals, Western Section.

Ms. Taylor holds a Juris Doctorate from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis (2009). A native of Medford, Massachusetts, Ms. Taylor moved to Nashville in 1998 to attend Fisk University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Ms. Taylor also has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Global Management from the University of Phoenix.

The City of Murfreesboro announced in August the promotion of Adam Tucker, who had previously served as Interim City Attorney and Assistant City Attorney, to serve as City Attorney.
