City offices and facilities closing in observance of MLK Jr. Day

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all City of Murfreesboro offices, and most recreational facilities, will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021. Citizens are encouraged to support MLK Jr. “Day of Service” to build community and uplift neighborhoods. More information on MLK Jr. Day of Service is available below.

Rover, the City’s public transportation service, will not run on the federal holiday.

There will be no garbage pick-up on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021. Monday’s garbage pick-up will be Tuesday, Jan. 19. Tuesday’s garbage pick-up will be Wednesday, January 20.

All Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department facilities, except Patterson Park Community Center for the Sort-A Thon and Blood Drive-only and Adams Tennis Complex, will be closed. Adams will operate regular hours on MLK Jr. Day.

Old Fort and VA golf courses will be open on MLK Jr. Day.

St. Clair Street Senior Center will be open Saturday, Jan. 16, from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 17, from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., but closed Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of MLK Jr. Day.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an annual federal holiday that celebrates the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. The American holiday honors the life and achievements of this influential civil rights leader.

Patterson Park Community Center is hosting a Sort-A-Thon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 18, 2021. Items for the City School’s Backpack Program have been collected throughout January and will be sorted on MLK Jr. Day. The American Red Cross and the Rutherford County Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will partner to host a community blood drive in the gymnasium at Patterson Park Community Center.

Due to COVID restrictions, the blood drive will be appointment only. Individuals can schedule an appointment to give blood by either visiting RedCrossBlood.org, using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or activating the Blood Scheduling Skill for Amazon Alexa. The sponsor code is “FirstOfAll.”

The 17th Annual Martin Luther King Jr Day March will be a virtual event. The annual March beginning at Central Magnet School will NOT be held.
