Cleo Jernigan obituary

Mrs. Cleo Mae Duke Jernigan, age 91, of Murfreesboro, TN passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in her home as was her wish. She was born in Cannon County, TN to the late Allen and Elsie Stacey Duke. Mrs. Jernigan retired from South Central Bell in Brentwood before working at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was a faithful member of Bellwood Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. Mrs. Jernigan volunteered with the Election Commission. She had a loving, giving personality and never met a stranger wherever she went.

Mrs. Jernigan is survived by her children, Mark Alan Jernigan and Cherie Lea Wade both of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Austin Myers Wade and Leslie Cherie VanWinkle and her husband Vince; great-grandchildren, Izabelle LeaAnn VanWinkle and Pepper Victoria VanWinkle; siblings, Wayne Duke, Ann Barrett, Linda Parker and her husband Bobby, Patricia Parker and her husband Freddy, Walter Price Jernigan, Peggy Ray, and Wanda Magda; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Jernigan, and siblings, Nellie Vance, Allen Duke, Jack “H.C.” Duke, Fred Duke, Billy Jernigan, and Larry Jernigan.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 1:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
