Community Development Department Issues Notice of Funding Availability
The City of Murfreesboro Community Development Department has announced a Notice of Funding Availability for the Acquisition of Real Property Program for FY 2017-18. The grant projects must benefit low-income residents of Murfreesboro with affordable rental property.
“The City of Murfreesboro partners with the federal government to fund a wide range of public service activities including child care, healthcare, job training, homeless services and education programs,” said City Community Development Director John Callow. “We encourage qualified nonprofit agencies with 501(c)3 tax-exempt status and government agencies to apply for these competitive Acquisition of Real Property Program grants.”
Since initiating the program in 2016, the City has assisted non-profit agencies purchase eight units of residential rental property. Terms of the purchase require non-profits to maintain the units as affordable to low-income households for a minimum of 10 years and match a minimum of 25% of the City’s investment.

The Community Development Department has budgeted $200,000 to fund the Acquisition of Real Property Community Development Public Service Grants for FY 2017-18. CDBG regulations allow the use of grant funds for a wide range of public service activities (24 CFR 570).
Applications for 2017-18 Public Service Grants must submit a letter of interest and qualifications to the Community Development Department. Details for applying are included in the attached Notice of Funding Available Program Guide. Participating agencies must have a current Certificate of Existence issued by the State of Tennessee.
