Community invited to kick-off the 2026 Relay For Life of Murfreesboro

The community is invited to come together for the American Cancer Society’s worldwide Relay First Lap, an inspiring event that officially kicks off the 2026 Relay For Life of Murfreesboro season.

Relay First Lap is an annual global moment when Relayers everywhere take the first lap of the year together — united by energy, hope, and purpose — as the first step in a new Relay season. Locally, participants will gather to walk together in support of the American Cancer Society’s mission to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.

The event will take place Saturday, January 10 at Oaklands Mansion, 900 N. Maney Ave., Murfreesboro. Participants will meet at the teardrop driveway at 12:30 p.m. Luminaria will be available for purchase to honor or remember loved ones who have been impacted by cancer. Each luminaria is $5, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. When a luminaria is purchased, the honoree’s photo will be included in the luminaria ceremony slideshow. Light refreshments will be provided.

Organizers encourage all teams and team captains, as well as community members interested in getting involved with Relay For Life, to attend.

The Relay For Life of Murfreesboro main event will be held on June 12, 2026, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., also at Oaklands Mansion. The event raises critical funds to support cancer research, patient services, advocacy, and education through the American Cancer Society.

The planning committee is currently seeking:

  • Relay teams and team captains
  • Vendors ($40 per space; $75 for a double space)
  • Food trucks ($60)
  • Sponsors and individual donations

No donation is too small. Every dollar raised helps fund groundbreaking cancer research, provide patient support programs, and save lives in communities like Murfreesboro.

This year’s Relay effort is being led by Denise Bond, a dedicated community member who is organizing the event while courageously fighting her own battle with cancer — a powerful reminder of why this cause matters so deeply.

Together, one step, one lap, and one dollar at a time, the Murfreesboro community can make a lasting difference in the fight against cancer.
