Community Meetings Scheduled for Zoning Ordinance Discussion
Dates have been set so that the community can review the new La Vergne zoning ordinance and zoning map. City staff will be set up at the La Vergne Public Library from May 22 – May 26 at varying times throughout the week to meet with anyone interested in learning more about the zoning changes.
It’s important for residents and business owners to note that property taxes and neighborhood restrictive covenants are not affected by the City’s zoning or other development ordinances. No appeals will be part of this process.
A list of frequently asked questions has been posted to the City’s website along with the proposed zoning ordinance and new zoning map. For citizens interested in learning about their own property, they are encouraged to attend one of the community meetings, review the plans online at www.lavergnetn.gov, or call (615) 287-8659.
“The Planning Commission has been working diligently on this project with city staff and our consultant for more than two years,” says Mayor Jason Cole. “The current zoning map is outdated and a new, modernized zoning ordinance will allow the city to effectively manage growth and new development.”
A special form has been created online for members of the community to submit their questions, comments, and opinions to staff members who will prepare a community response packet to present to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
The zoning ordinance must be approved by the Board at two separate readings to be adopted. The Board typically meets on the first Tuesday of each month. There will also be a public hearing prior to the Board meetings to allow the public to speak directly to the Board about their thoughts or concerns with the new ordinance. The new ordinance is expected to be presented to the Board for first reading during the July 6 meeting.
