Counterfeit Money, Drugs Seized

Counterfeit cash, methamphetamine and a loaded handgun were seized from a convicted felon during a traffic stop Friday, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputy reported.

Deputy Matt Kunce charged Suspect Colby Wayne Carter, 21, of Oak Point Street in Murfreesboro with possession of methamphetamine, bringing methamphetamine into a jail, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and criminal simulation.

Kunce was patrolling on Joe B. Jackson Parkway when he saw Carter and another man riding in a Honda Accord but the vehicle was registered to a red Jeep Wrangler. They stopped at a fast food restaurant where Kunce talked to them.

The deputy found Carter was wanted for seven arrest warrants for violation of probation and failure to appear in court. The car’s owner, who was not charged, gave consent for a search of the Honda where Kunce located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol under the seat where Carter sat.

Kunce checked Carter’s criminal history and arrested him for being a convicted felon possessing a firearm.

During a search, Kunce recovered $1,705 worth of counterfeit money in Carter’s back pocket.

While being booked, Kunce and Booking Deputy Devin Burrows located about $1,000 worth of methamphetamine in Carter’s clothing, Kunce said.

Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh commended Kunce for doing an outstanding job in recovering the illegal drugs and counterfeit cash.

Carter is being held without bond at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is set Oct. 11 in General Sessions Court.
