County’s 7th Annual Chili Cook-off Raises over $3600 for United Way

Rutherford County raised a whopping $3,607.25 at its 7th Annual Chili Cook-off benefiting United Way of Rutherford and Cannon counties!

The event took place November 8 on the historical courthouse lawn. Despite the cold temperatures and windy conditions, attendance was up this year from 2018.

“Last year’s event brought in just over $1,300,” said Deputy Mayor Steve Sandlin. “We are thrilled that so many in our community came out and supported this wonderful cause.”

Rutherford County employees competed for best chili, best hot chili, and best (patriotic) booth. First place for “Best Chili” was the Rutherford County Correctional Work Center, “Best Hot Chili” went to Rutherford County Fire & Rescue, and “Best Booth” went to the Human Resources department, who used American Red Cross founder Clara Barton as their inspiration.

“Our employees and this community continue to show their commitment to our citizens in need,” said Sandlin. “That’s one of the things that makes our County one of the best in the state!”
