Discover India Day Returns to Discovery Center
Discovery Center to Present 13th Annual Discover India Day on August 9
The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring will host its 13th Annual Discover India Day on Saturday, August 9th, from 10 AM to 5 PM. Sponsored by the Nissan Foundation, the Cultural Heritage Celebration is free and open to the public.
This year’s event, hosted in partnership with the Friends of India Association Murfreesboro, includes a variety of interactive activities designed to introduce children and adults to Indian culture through crafts, games, sensory exploration, and educational displays. Discover India Day is part of the Discovery Center’s Cultural Heritage Day series, which provides free, family-oriented events highlighting the cultural diversity of Murfreesboro and the surrounding region.
“Discover India Day has grown into one of our most anticipated annual events because it creates space for learning, creativity, and cultural connection,” said Tara MacDougall, President and CEO of the Discovery Center. “We’re grateful to the Nissan Foundation for their ongoing investment in cultural programming, which ensures these experiences remain open and free to the public.”
Planned activities include crafting flower garlands, creating rangoli designs, sampling spices in a sensory station, and building Indian landmarks using LEGO. Guests can also participate in yoga, dress in traditional Indian clothing for photos, and try out games like snakes and ladders. Hindi name writing will be available in the morning, from 10 AM to 1 PM.
“Working with the Friends of India Association Murfreesboro ensures that our programming is accurate, representative, and community-driven,” said Sarah Hicks, Community and Visitor Engagement Coordinator at the Discovery Center. “Their involvement strengthens the authenticity of the event, and with the continued support of the Nissan Foundation, we’re able to make it accessible to all.”
The Cultural Heritage Day series is part of the Discovery Center’s ongoing effort to celebrate the region’s diversity through engaging, hands-on learning. Other annual events in the series include the AAPI Day Celebration in May, Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January, and Hispanic Heritage Day in September, along with additional programs that reflect the many cultures represented in Middle Tennessee.
The Discovery Center is located at 502 SE Broad Street in Murfreesboro, TN, adjacent to the Murfree Spring wetlands. More information and updates on Discover India Day programming can be found at www.explorethedc.org.
