Discovery Center Summer Camp is filling up fast

When school is out, camp is in! CAMPOLOGY at the Discovery Center incorporates fun, hands-on, inquiry-based learning into all of our camps. Campers are divided into different age groups – each with their own Camp Counselor and age-appropriate lessons packed with games and activities designed to help campers learn, socialize, and have fun! Each camp offers an opportunity for exploration of museum exhibits and free play outdoors, weather permitting.

2019 Summer Camps

STEAM Heroes
Working at a skill for 10,000 hours is a pretty big commitment. We are skipping all the grunt work and recreating our beloved masters’ best works! Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Leonardo’s flying machines and Newton’s prism experiments are just the tip of the iceberg! Come avoid all the hours logging data and have all the fun instead. Each day we will focus on a different hero of STEAM and walk away with a new appreciation for his or her work.

Explorers Club
At any given moment, no matter where you are, there are hundreds of things around you worth exploring! This week is all about the great outdoors. We are heading outside to learn about Tennessee’s native plants and animals as we hike and wade through Murfree Spring. Come learn how to investigate the world around us and turn our observations into wonderful works of art, tools to be used in your next journey out, or anything your mind can come up with.

Astronaut in Training
We are taking the next giant leap together here at Discovery Center. For the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, we are celebrating everything space! Step into our planetarium to explore the solar system, take a closer look at the surface of the moon, and discover constellations. We will try our hand at being a rocket scientist, an engineer in space, and see if we can land our own rockets. If you love space, this is the camp for you!

Camp Catch ’em All
Calling all Pokémon trainers and animal lovers, this is the camp for you! What do Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle have in common with our animal friends at Discovery Center? Why do electric-type Pokémon have an advantage over water-types in battle? This week combines zoology lessons with Pokémon-inspired science experiments, as well as the art that makes up all of your favorite characters. Are you ready to catch ’em all?

Cooking Up STEAM
What do a kitchen and a science lab have in common? They are actually more similar than you might think. This week we will develop fascinating science, technology, engineering, art, and math skills using items found in your kitchen. Try your hand at some kitchen chemistry, create a few edible experiments, and see what other reactions we can cook up in the kitchen. We will become better scientists and chefs all in the same week!
