Doris Rigwald Obituary

Doris Irene Rigwald graciously departed this world on July 18, 2024. Born on February 4, 1929, in Olivet, Michigan, to Sarah Marie and Clifford Rhodus, Doris was lovingly raised by her Aunt Dot and her grandmother. Despite a challenging upbringing, she blossomed into a remarkable woman who led a vibrant and beautiful life.

Doris married Lloyd Rigg Cahill, with whom she had two sons, Dennis Rigg Cahill and Steven Douglas Cahill. Known for her impeccable fashion sense, Doris worked as a buyer for Joslins department stores for many years. As an extraordinary artist, she traveled across the United States, teaching the intricate craft of China painting while also helping her husband run their family engraving business.

Her talents were numerous: Doris was an award-winning quilter and a skilled seamstress, often crafting beautiful dresses for her granddaughters. However, her greatest joy was found in her roles as a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, aunt, and friend – her love and warmth were felt by all who knew her. Doris’s legacy of love, artistry, and grace will forever be cherished by her family and friends.

Following the loss of her first husband, Doris found love again with John James Rigwald, with whom she spent her golden years in unparalleled happiness.

Doris is survived by her sister, Edna Peavyhouse; brother, James Mitchell; son, Dennis Rigg Cahill; nine grandchildren, Carrie, Matthew, Shawn, Jason, Melany, Jared, Jennah, Geoffery, and Robin; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Marie Mitchell and Clifford Rhodus; siblings, Hollis, Marjory, and Robert; the father of her children, Lloyd Rigg Cahill; beloved husband, John James Rigwald; and son, Steven Douglas Cahill.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
