Dr. Rosa Vásquez Espinoza, Honorary Chair for 10th Annual Tennessee STEAM Festival
The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring is proud to announce that internationally recognized scientist, conservation leader, and National Geographic Explorer Dr. Rosa Vásquez Espinoza will serve as the Honorary Chair of the 2026 Tennessee STEAM Festival as the statewide event celebrates its 10th anniversary.
A Peruvian-born chemical biologist, author, and award-winning explorer, Dr. Vásquez Espinoza has dedicated her career to bridging scientific discovery, environmental conservation, and Indigenous knowledge to inspire global action. She is the founder and executive director of Amazon Research International and has been recognized among the BBC's 100 Most Influential Women in the World, received the UNESCO–Al Fozan Laureate Award, and earned international acclaim for her groundbreaking work protecting biodiversity in the Amazon rainforest.

Dr. Vásquez Espinoza's connection to Tennessee makes her appointment especially meaningful. A graduate of Tennessee Tech University, she has gone on to become a globally recognized scientist, explorer, author, and advocate for environmental stewardship. Her work has been featured by National Geographic, the BBC, CNN, The New York Times, and numerous international media outlets.
Since its founding in 2016, the Tennessee STEAM Festival has grown into one of the largest STEAM festivals in the nation, connecting hundreds of organizations and communities through free, hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and inspire lifelong learning. As the Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2026, it continues its mission of inspiring innovation, creativity, and exploration through STEAM experiences across the state.
As Honorary Chair, Dr. Vásquez Espinoza will participate in select Tennessee STEAM Festival events and activities throughout the mid-state region. Additional details regarding public appearances, speaking engagements, and anniversary programming will be announced soon.

The 2026 Tennessee STEAM Festival will take place October. 9 – 25, 2026, featuring events hosted by schools, libraries, museums, businesses, universities, and community organizations throughout Tennessee.
