Blain Poynor gifted with $23,000 and will produce TV series

Blain Poynor, eighth grader at Eagleville, recently was selected as the winner of a national contest called “The Shakedown” put on by Choose Different Media.

On Friday, Poynor’s class was surprised by the news that he won the contest.

Poynor will now have the opportunity to star in and help produce the creative tv show idea that he pitched as a part of the contest.

“I’m just so happy and excited. I really had no idea that I was going to win,” says Poynor. “I’m ready to get to work.

Poynor was gifted $20,000 to aid in the production of the show, and $3,000 for a college scholarship by WHTN/CTN Nashville.

Blain’s creative idea is titled “Small Town Testimonies” which will help showcase incredible stories that occur in small town settings.

Poynor’s uncle, Joshua Carney, helped him come up with the idea.

The two grew close during a tragic accident that involved Carney’s son.

Carney says that he is extremely proud of Blain and the type of young man he is.

“I’m so proud of Blain and humbled by this news. I consider Blain one of my own kids,” says Carney. “I try to help them to grow in their involvement and their leadership in schools. I’m extremely proud of Blain and the example he’s set to the young peers around him.”

Amber Poynor, Blain’s mother, talks ecstatically about the creative kind of kid that he is.

“Blain is just so creative,” says Amber. “He really has some incredible ideas, and it is so great to see one of those ideas be able to come to life through this process.”

The show will air on Christian Television Network over six episodes.
