Early Registration Closing Soon for 9th Annual Special Kids Race

Only a few days remain with “early bird pricing” still available for participants that register for the 9th Annual Special Kids Race, presented by Murfreesboro Medical Clinic & Surgicenter (MMC) on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at MMC in Murfreesboro, TN.

Runners, or walkers, that take part in the fundraising event will save $5 by signing up at specialkidsrace.org before Wednesday, January 15th. Registration will continue to be open past the discounted deadline for each of the different races: 5K (now reduced to $45), 10K ($50), 15K ($55), or One-Mile “Fun Run” ($25). All levels of participants are encouraged to take part, including the entire family, regardless of age or physical experience. A “virtual runner” donation option is also available for those not able to be present on race day, for $25.

Entrants to the 5K, 10K and 15K will receive a quarter-zip pullover, race medal, along with additional giveaways from MMC, and other promotional partners. One-Mile “Fun Run” contestants will also be given a medal, and soft-style t-shirt. For the ninth straight year, all event expenses have been covered by sponsors, allowing 100% of the money contributed by contestants in each run to directly benefit children with special needs at Special Kids.

The race is an annual fundraiser for the local nonprofit Special Kids Therapy & Nursing Center. Race participants, teams, supporters and even spectators can provide additional help for the children benefited by joining “Impact Special Kids”. This online fundraising community helps supporters turn their creative fundraising ideas into reality, encouraging members take part either as individuals or, similar to the actual race, as a team. “We are looking forward to our ninth year,” says Stephanie Folkmann, Director of Development at Special Kids. “In addition to our ‘impact’ program, we will also continue our program for businesses to become involved called the ‘corporate challenge’. Our hope is that the community will continue to take hold of these fundraising opportunities to come together for the kids.”

The “corporate challenge” encourages local businesses to show their support by covering the registration costs for their employees interested in participating, as well as committing to raise additional funds for Special Kids. Commemorative prizes will be given to “corporate” teams that excel at this goal.
