ED Staff and Ascension Saint Thomas Leaders Thank EMS Colleagues

Emergency Department (ED) staff at Ascension Saint Thomas facilities are sending love to another group of frontline heroes this week.

Across Ascension Saint Thomas, ED associates want their EMS colleagues to feel celebrated during National EMS Week, which runs from May 17 through 23. Over the next few days, Ascension Saint Thomas facilities are treating EMS professionals to socially-distanced cookouts, no-contact breakfast and lunch deliveries, and continuing education webinars.

Ascension Saint Thomas President and CEO Tim Adams gave the following shout-out to local EMS associates: “Thank you for the incredible work you’ve been doing during this crisis. You’ve been on the front lines doing amazing work. Thank you for being our modern-day heroes.”

On Friday, a group of Middle Tennessee EMS associates surprised one beloved ED physician with a socially-distanced celebration of their own. As seen in the photos below, first responders held a drive-by caravan to celebrate Dr. Robert M. Hutton, who is retiring after 43 years in the emergency department at Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown. It’s no wonder that Dr. Hutton calls EMS colleagues his “brothers and sisters” and says, “We love you and we will get through this together. Stay safe.”
