Connected: A Breast Cancer Survivor Retreat Registration Now Open

Murfreesboro Medical Clinic is proud to host the first breast cancer survivor’s event of its kind in Middle Tennessee. Connected: A Breast Cancer Survivor Retreat is a mini day retreat for anyone who has ever been diagnosed with breast cancer. The event will be hosted at The View at The Fountains on Saturday, August 10th  from 9 am – 1pm. Connected is a free event open to all breast cancer patients, no matter where you are in your journey. Bring a guest of your choosing and enjoy engaging breakout sessions with topics including: stress management, healthy cooking, expert makeup and skincare tips, financial planning, creative exercise and more. The event will commence with a lunch catered by Five Senses Restaurant and will feature comedian and guest speaker, Karen Mills.

Karen, a nationally touring comedian for over twenty-one years, knows the realities of living with cancer first-hand. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013 during a routine checkup, Karen chose to “turn her pain into punchlines,” landing her a spot as a speaker at TEDxChattanooga to present her talk, “Cancer is a Laughing Matter.” Since surviving cancer, Karen continues to inspire audiences with her strength, stage presence and gift to find humor in even the most difficult situations.

The physicians at MMC’s Comprehensive Breast Center are passionate about connecting and cultivating a safe space for those women who are battling breast cancer. “Breast cancer can be a scary and difficult diagnosis. We don’t anyone to walk that journey alone,” says Lisa White, M.D., Breast Surgeon at MMC’s Comprehensive Breast Center. “We want anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer to know they are connected with other survivors and with us as medical care providers. We want them to be connected with the knowledge of ways of combating breast cancer and its consequence. We want survivors to be connected with hope, encouragement and purpose. Connected is designed to do all of those things,” said Dr. White.

Dr. Lisa White and her partners truly saw the need in Middle Tennessee for an event like Connected. MMC hopes for this to be a step towards providing a stronger community for women to connect with other survivors and those currently battling breast cancer.

Connected is a free event to all who have ever been diagnosed with breast cancer and a guest of their choosing. To learn more and to RSVP visit mmclinic.com/connected or call 615-867-8040.
