Exhibit Opening and Reception
February 4, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
“Stories of the Road” is a new history exhibit exploring forced and voluntary migrations through Rutherford County. The exhibit focuses in particular on Murfreesboro’s College Street, where the Heritage Center is located, and how this road’s function has shifted over time. “Stories of the Road” highlights College Street as a branch of the Cherokee Trail of Tears, a byway for troops during the Civil War, the midway point of the Dixie Highway, and a connecting branch to Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna.
This exhibit is sponsored by the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area.
The Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County is a joint venture between the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, Main Street: Murfreesboro/Rutherford County, the City of Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, and the Center for Historic Preservation at MTSU. The Heritage Center is open M–F from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. Admission is free.
