Poetry Critique Workshop

April 22, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

THIS SESSION IS FOR YOU IF:
*You have a poem – a work in progress – that you’d like feedback on
*You’re interested in exchanging thoughtful comments on poems written by fellow poets in our community
*You’re new to critiquing poems, either in a one-on-one or group format
*You’re wondering if your poem is ready to submit for publication
*You have questions about how to submit to journals

HOW TO REGISTER:
We’ll be accepting only 8 participants, so reserve your spot by emailing Kory at korywells@gmail.com. We plan to break into small groups for a guided critique session. Based on group interest, we’ll also spend some time talking about how to submit poems for publication.

THE WHO, WHEN, & WHERE:
This session will be led by Kory Wells and Bryanna Licciardi.
It will begin at approximately 1:30 at MTSU’s campus, after a lunch break following the Tiana Clark workshop Saturday morning.

ABOUT THE SESSION LEADERS:
*Bryanna Licciardi resists the question, “Where are you from?” She has lived all over the country — California, Texas, Michigan, Massachussetts, Louisiana — and currently resides just outside of Nashville. She writes poetry, prose, fiction, nonfiction essays and lectures. In 2011, Bryanna received her BA in English from Austin Peay State University, in 2014, her MFA in Poetry from Emerson College, and she is currently a PhD student in MTSU’s literacy studies program. She has served as the Poetry Editor for Redivider Journal, marketing intern for Vestal Review, and Editor-in-Chief for Red Mud Review. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals, and her first chapbook SKIN SPLITTING is forthcoming this year from Finishing Line Press.

*Kory Wells is author of the chapbook HEAVEN WAS THE MOON (March Street Press) and a poetry mentor with the low-residency program MTSU Write. After her first career in software development, she now advocates for the arts, democracy, afternoon naps, and other good causes. Winner of the 2016 HeartWood Broadside Series and a two-time finalist for the Rash Award for Poetry, her work appears in ASCENT, BROAD RIVER REVIEW, POEM, THE WILD WORD, THE SOUTHERN POETRY ANTHOLOGY, and other publications. A seventh generation Tennessean and longtime Murfreesboro resident, Kory is the founder, curator and frequent host of the Poetry in the Boro reading and open mic.
