On July 13, 1862, The Civil War came to Murfreesboro with the sound of clattering hooves and gunfire as Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and his cavalry brigade charged into town and surprised the Union garrison. On July 13, 2019, join the rangers and volunteers from the Stones River National Battlefield and staff of Oaklands Mansion on the grounds of Oaklands for a series of programs highlighting the events of that day 157 years ago on the site where the 9th Michigan Infantry withstood several Confederate onslaughts until they were compelled to surrender.
