Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) employee Dillon Harris has been named, ‘Firefighter of the Year,’ by the Exchange Club of Rutherford County.
The award was presented at the Exchange Club of Murfreesboro meeting held at Through The Grapevine, 630 Broadmor St. Ste 190, Wednesday afternoon.
“It’s humbling,” Harris said. “I’m very honored to know our upper command supports me in this role. I’m just doing whatever I can to help the department.”
Harris was nominated by MFRD Interim Chief Mark McCluskey and Assistant Chief Brian Lowe for his attention to detail with the purchase, inventory, managing and maintenance of equipment of 14 fire apparatus at the 11 fire stations in the city. This is a volunteer role in addition to his regular job as a firefighter.
“Firefighter Harris has done an outstanding job for our department,” said MFRD Interim Chief Mark McCluskey. “He is organized and thorough with inventory and equipment. He has also saved the city thousands of dollars by shopping around for the best deal on equipment.”
Harris began his career as a firefighter with MFRD in August 2018. He works on Rescue 4 (B-Shift) at Fire Station 4 on Medical Center Pkwy. Harris previously worked with the Manchester Fire Department.
