FIRST COMMUNITY MORTGAGE RAISES OVER $60,000 FOR LOCAL CHARITIES AT 4TH ANNUAL TYLER MORRISSEY GOLF TOURNAMENT
First Community Mortgage (FCM) raised over $60,000 in the 4th Annual Tyler Morrissey Golf Tournament, held recently at Indian Hills Golf Course in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, according to an announcement made by Keith Canter, CEO of FCM.
“This annual event is growing in popularity and impact every year,” said FCM’s CEO, Keith Canter. “It is hard work for many people, but a true labor of love for FCM to be involved in making this tournament happen. It helps honor Tyler’s memory and supports several valuable charities that help improve the quality of life for many people here in our home town. This year the income increased by 50 percent over last year, which means we will be able to make a difference for even more people in our community.”
According to Canter, $40,000 of the funds raised by the tournament have already been delivered to Christmas for the Children, a local charity that provides Christmas gifts for children in families that would not otherwise be able to provide those gifts. The charity provides $150 per child for those it has funds to support, along with providing a full Christmas meal for the families whose children receive gifts through their efforts.
“It is difficult to express the depth of gratitude we have for those who work so hard to make this tournament a success,” said Melinda Morrissey, Tyler’s mother and a Realtor with Parks Realty in Murfreesboro. “Not only does the tournament celebrate Tyler’s life, but a significant portion of the funds are directed to Christmas for the Children, the charity that Parks Realty supports every year. We are so grateful for all of this kindness and look forward to seeing this effort continue to grow.”
“Christmas for the Children is an exceptional charity making a real difference in the lives of so many children and their families,” said Kathy Jones, Managing Broker for Parks Realty in Murfreesboro. “Parks Realty is committed to supporting them, and that support is certainly strengthened by this major contribution from FCM through the success of the Tyler Morrissey Golf Tournament. It is humbling to see how so many people are willing to work so hard to make the event a success, knowing it will honor Tyler and his family – and make a difference in the lives of children and families here in our community.”
Proceeds from the tournament this year are being distributed to local charities, including:
- Christmas for the Children ($40,000)
- FCM Cares/JC Gordon Memorial Scholarship ($7,500)
- Baylor Bramble Family ($2,500)
- Domestic Violence Center ($2,500)
- CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) – Murfreesboro ($2,500)
- Green House Ministries ($2,500)

About Christmas for the Children
Christmas for the Children has one goal: to create a magical Christmas experience for Middle Tennessee families who are less fortunate than others. Volunteers take each child on a shopping spree at K-Mart in the morning, and all of our families are treated to a pizza party that afternoon. They also provide a fully-prepared meal (with all the trimmings!) for the family to enjoy on Christmas Eve. This is the real spirit of Christmas – giving to others and sharing the love that feels so much richer, so much fuller, during this special time of the year. It is accomplished through the willing help of more than 3200 volunteers. Their passion and excitement and willingness to give their time and hearts has helped to create incredible Christmas memories for thousands of children over the years.
