Herb Day at Cheekwood

The Herb Society of Nashville, www.herbsocietysnashville.org, today announces plans for its annual Herb Day to be held on September 29, 2018, at Cheekwood Estate and Gardens in Nashville. Themed Back to the Basics, the program features speakers Barefoot Farmer Jeff Poppen, Herbalist and Master Gardener Debbie Boutelier, and Enchanted Kitchen Catering Chef Susan Powers. The full day event includes breakfast, lunch, guest speakers, exhibits from local artisans, and an herb garden tour.

Jeff Poppen, also known as the Barefoot Farmer, is the owner and operator of one of the oldest and largest organic farms in Tennessee. For the past 15 years Poppen has appeared on Nashville PBS’s Volunteer Gardener.

Debbie Boutelier’s talk, Herbs for the Health of It, is steeped in her more than 15 years of studying medicinal herb use, including a three-year intensive study of the medicinal aspect of herbs at the Appalachian Center for Natural Health. Boutelier is a long-time member and past president of the Herb Society of America.

Susan Powers will demonstrate kitchen basics in her talk, Cooking with Herbs. Powers owns and operates Enchanted Kitchen Catering, serving Middle Tennessee’s film and video community with full-scale catering and craft service since 1994.

This tasty, fun and informative day, hosted against Cheekwood’s beautiful backdrop, is a yearly favorite. Tickets are limited to the first 150 paid guests. Early bird pricing is $50 beginning July 15 through August 31, and $55 beginning September 1.

Tickets may be purchased by mail or online. Visit the website www.herbsocietynashville.org for more details.
