HOMETOWN HEROES WALK FOR CHILDREN
“The Child Advocacy Center is celebrating Child Abuse Prevention month with the 2nd annual Hometown Heroes Walk for Children,” said Child Advocacy Center Director Sharon De Boer.
The 2.1-mile walk will begin at noon on Friday, April 21 at the Murfreesboro Civic Plaza, with registration beginning at 11 a.m., and speakers at 11:45 a.m. The Walk will conclude at the Child Advocacy Center, located at 1040 Samsonite Blvd. A reception will follow at the Center.
Registration is free to walk. Walkers may purchase an event T-shirt for $10. Individuals are encouraged to pre-register at cacrutherford.org or by calling the Child Advocacy Center at (615) 867-9000 and request an emailed registration form.
“Walking in the Hometown Heroes Walk for Children is a wonderful way for our community to show their support for children,” De Boer said. “Funds raised from the event will support services for child abuse victims, child sexual abuse victims, and drug endangered children, and provide child sexual abuse prevention training for parents and grandparents.”
The Child Protective Investigative Team responds as a multidisciplinary team to child abuse cases. The Department of Children’s Services protects children, law enforcement arrests perpetrators, the District Attorney’s Office aggressively prosecutes offenders, while the Child Advocacy Center helps children and their families heal from the trauma of the abuse.
In the last 17 years, the team has worked together to investigate and prosecute 12,760 child abuse cases and assisted over 17,900 individuals in Rutherford and Cannon counties.
The Darkness to Light child sexual abuse prevention program has trained over 7,600 parents, grandparents, and professionals how to recognize the signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse, protect children, and react responsibly by reporting the crime to 877-237-0004.
