Hometown Heroes Walk for Children is This Friday

Join us to Celebrate National Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Hometown Heroes Walk for Children is the Child Advocacy Center’s final event to celebrate National Child Abuse Prevention Month,” announced Child Advocacy Center director Sharon De Boer. “Please join us on Friday, April 28, to show our community’s support for child abuse victims and their families.”

Complimentary shuttles will run from Oaklands Park to the event kick-off at Murfreesboro Civic Plaza from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Registration will start at 10:45 a.m., opening ceremony at 11:30 a.m., and the walk will begin at 12:00 noon. The free event will conclude with a picnic lunch at Oaklands Park pavilion. The park is located at 427 Roberts Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37130.

“The weather forecast for Friday is partly cloudy and 69 degrees,” continued De Boer. “It should be a beautiful day for a walk.”

The opening ceremony will include a welcome by Smyrna Mayor Mary Esther Reed, followed by a prayer by retired District Attorney General Bill Whitesell. District Attorney General Jennings H. Jones and De Boer will present the Hometown Heroes awards to Child Protective Investigative Team members who have dedicated their careers to protecting child abuse victims and assisting their families. Child Advocacy Center Development Coordinator Katie Enzor will thank the event sponsors including the event presenting sponsor, Design Blasting Services, LLC. Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr will announce “ready, set, GO!” to start the walk.

“The 8th annual Hometown Heroes Walk for Children has had unprecedented pre-registration numbers! This year, the Child Advocacy Center has had more people pre-register to walk than any other year,” stated Development Coordinator Katie Enzor. “KFT BBQ and Catering is providing a picnic lunch at Oaklands Park for participants! Please pre-register at www.cacrutherford.org/events so we know how many people will be there for lunch.”
