Framed: Step into Art™, a traveling exhibit created by the Minnesota Children’s Museum, opens at the Discovery Center on Saturday, February 1st. The exhibit, running through May 11th, allows visitors to engage with iconic works of art by stepping into immersive environments based on famous paintings.
The exhibit features activities centered around iconic works, including:
- Grant Wood’s Dinner for Threshers: Visitors can learn about rural life in the early 1900s by setting a table, preparing a meal, and exploring the details of this classic artwork.
- John Singer Sargent’s Camp at Lake O’Hara: Guests can step into a recreation of the painting, complete with a tent and camping gear, and imagine what a campsite might look like today.
- Diego Rivera’s Corn Festival: Participants can decorate a flower tower with “corn husks” and contribute to a collaborative mural inspired by Rivera’s fresco.
- Clementine Hunter’s Big Chicken: Children can climb onto a giant rooster and create imaginative creatures using elements inspired by Hunter’s folk art.
- Mona Lisa Gallery: Visitors can view various interpretations of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and pose for their own version of the portrait.
“This exhibit not only makes art accessible but also encourages curiosity and creativity in a way that is uniquely hands-on,” said Tara MacDougall, President and CEO of the Discovery Center. “By stepping into these iconic paintings, visitors can experience art in a way that sparks imagination and fosters a deeper connection to these works and their stories.”
