Japanese Folklore and Art on Display at MTSU

Experience the rich world of Japanese folklore, art, and culture at Middle Tennessee State University through Yo-Kai Parade, a major international traveling exhibition now featured in the Todd Art Gallery.

Organized by the Japan Foundation in collaboration with MTSU’s Department of Art and Design, the Office of International Affairs, and the Consulate General of Japan in Nashville, this exhibition explores the mysterious and captivating yokai, supernatural beings that have influenced Japanese storytelling for centuries.

The gallery showcases more than 600 square feet of artwork, including:

  • Edo-period woodblock prints
  • Illustrated manuscripts
  • Three-dimensional artifacts
  • Modern media inspired by traditional folklore

As one of the largest exhibitions ever hosted on campus, Yo-Kai Parade brings global culture to the southeastern United States and welcomes both the MTSU community and the public. The gallery serves as a space for curiosity, learning, and cultural exchange, offering visitors the opportunity to experience international art within a local setting.
