John Singleton obituary
John Aaron Singleton, age 87, of Apex, North Carolina passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018 peacefully at home after a hard battle with cancer.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 25, 2018 between the hours of 12-2:00 pm with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Brother Jerry Howard will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
John was born on November 14, 1930 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to the late George L. and Josie Lee Fleming Singleton. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, George “Pete” Singleton and Charles “Richard” Singleton; sisters, Edith Carter, Martha Williams, Mary Singleton and Gertrude Singleton.
Mr. Singleton is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rebecca Gum Singleton, his beloved doberman, MacKenzie, and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
John was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at Middle Tennessee State University and his Master’s Degree at NC State. He worked at NC State as a chemist for the Federal Government. He enjoyed training and showing Tennessee Walking Horses.
Pallbearers will be Mike Davenport, Taylor Davenport, Steve Williams, Jay Williams, Ray Thomas, Walker Thomas, Jim McDowell, and Ryan Blankenship.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of John and Becky Singleton in Apex, North Carolina on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 12pm-2:00pm.
